Looking after your Hiild knitwear

Every Hiild piece is made by hand using a combination of natural fibres and multiple strands of yarn knitted together. Please take care as pulls may occur if one or more strands get snagged on something. This can be worked back into shape with a bit of care and gentle manipulation, but please reach out for assistance if you need it.

Due to the natural fibres and each piece being handmade, there may be the odd "imperfection." I like to look at this as part of your unique knit's character and part of the story of its creation.

Over time and with wear, wool and alpaca can start to pill. This is a natural part of the process as the finer, short fibres raise to the surface and can be easily remedied with a fabric shaver. Please do not use scissors in case you accidentally snip the yarn!

Brushed alpaca used in some garments also has the tendency to malt, only a little. A lint roller is best to remove any loose fibres.

Frequently asked questions

Hiild knits are created to stand the test of time. I want them to be your most loved garments and they are made to be worn. Here's how to care for them.

How do I wash my Hiild knit?

Where possible try to spot clean and air the knit out. When it comes time to wash, please hand wash in cool water only. Gently reshape your knit and lay it flat to dry out of direct sunlight. Never tumble dry, and never soak your knits - this does not end well.

How should I store my knitwear?

It is best to store your knit folded rather than hanging so that it does not stretch out of shape. These knits get quite heavy when they are wet, so please be cautious.

Can I dry clean my Hiild garment?

If you are not confident washing your knit, I would recommend speaking to your dry cleaner and they may be able to assist you. Please note the care labels state "do not dry clean" as I have not done enough testing to ensure the safety, so please speak to your dry cleaner about their chemicals and process and whether they will be able to assist you.

Who can I contact for more questions?

I'm always here if you have any questions about the care of your knits. Please email info@hiild.co.nz with any questions.
